UFC 127 video analysis: What’s next for Fitch and Penn?

Jon Fitch and B.J. Penn battled for 15 minutes at UFC 127, with little determined after the fight was scored a majority draw. Penn had his moments in the first two rounds, while Fitch completed dominated the third. Wouldn't it be nice for all MMA main events to be five-rounders regardless of whether there's a title on the line?

That's not the case now and this draw leaves the UFC's welterweight division with a lot of question marks. Adam Hill from the Las Vegas Review-Journal joined us to break down the scoring and what the future looks like in the UFC's welterweight division.

Unbeaten #1 ranked Brandon Rios (27-0-1, 19 KOs) won the WBA lightweight title with a scintillating tenth round KO over reigning world titleholder Miguel Acosta (28-4-2, 22 KOs) on Saturday night at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. Facing his toughest opponent to date, Rios applied heavy pressure but Acosta was able to respond. The lightning quick Acosta rocked Rios with a big right hand at the end of round three. Round four was dominated by Acosta. Rios was able to bull inside and land some big shots in the fifth and Rios turned it around in the sixth when he floored Acosta with a left hook followed by a jab. Now in command, Rios knocked down Acosta again in round eight and finished him in round ten with a brutal barrage in the corner. Acosta’s corner jumped in as Acosta sunk to the canvas. Time was 1:14.

Unbeaten featherweight Roberto Marroqin (19-0, 14 KOs) won an eight round unanimous decision over Gilberto Sanchez Leon (28-9-3, 10 KOs). Scores were 78-74, 77-75, 77-75.

This is a fight that’s really difficult to pick a winner because Rios is fighting so well right now, but Acosta is so difficult to fight because of his ability to move constantly and punch with power while on the move.

In his last three fights, Acosta had defeated Urbano Antillon by a 9th round TKO, WBA lightweight champion Paulus Moses by a 6th round KO and Armando Cordoba by a 1st round knockout. The Moses and Antillon wins were really impressive by Acosta and those victories tell you that Rios may be in trouble in this fight.
